History of Nonlinear Time Series Analysis

  • For the first century or so, mathematicians studied Dyn Sys Theory by analyzing dynamical systems. After the computer revolution, scientists (esp. physicists) turned to the inverse problem: finding a dynamical system that mimics a given data set. Essentially an aspect of chaos theory, this became a whole field in itself by the 1990s.
